Declaration of Independence Essay

Change made by the Declaration of Independence would come in two waves, through, political freedom, and economic opportunity. Political freedom shaped the ideas and ambitions of the revolutionaries, while economic opportunity merely played as bonuses in the Revolution. First, political freedom for the colonies meant breaking away from England and being able to develop a sense of identity and a sense of self-government. This was established in the first steps towards independence, by the writing of the Declaration of Independence, by Thomas Jefferson. After Congress revised Jefferson’s first drafts of the Declaration of Independence, it was finally approved on July 4, 1776, and now commonly known as Independence Day. The Declaration of Independence was not a promise to the colonists, nor was it an excuse for the fight against England to occur. The Declaration of Independence was a challenge and a risk with the colonists and the rest of the world. The challenge was to test the morality of the colonists, and to push them to their limit in their fight for independence. Second, Once political freedom created fair taxes for the people, Americans needed not to avoid taxes, which led to more economic and trade opportunities, and the economy was able to blossom with little complaints, unlike the previous results of The Stamp Act and The Sugar Act, which preceded political freedoms. Social status was almost completely unchanged, apart from the ability for people to become important government figures, which could change their status in society, but only in aspect and relation to politics, therefore once again making political freedom more of a goal in the long run. Once the colonies were free from the grasp of the English government, they were able to explore their economic opportunities more freely. Before the success of the Revolution, importing goods came with a heavy price, that colonists were not allowed a say in. It is questionable if taxes are a factor of economic opportunity or political freedom, however the establishment of taxes are put down by government, and whether or not one has a say in the taxes they will pay, depends on one’s amount of political freedom. Finally, For the Declaration of Independence to give any freedom at all, it had to first allow for more political freedom. This enabled the possibilities of a stable economic base in which people and government could stand on. In turn these two freedoms would end up making way for more social and societal freedoms within the new country and constitution.

Life events

What are the 3 moments in my life that made me into the person I am today. Well when I was first asked that question by my teacher I kinda laughed to myself. This is going to be easy Just take three things that have happened to me that kinda of go with each other throw in some deep heart moving things that teachers eat up and call it done. When I started I chose my adoption ,my brothers adoption and my puppy adoption all events that follow a close thread easy to write about and all happy tear Jerker events. As I started writing them up I immediately felt that these werent the events I should be writing about.The adoption of my brother wasnt really all that important to me. What some government papers say and a Judge decides means little to me. My brother is my brother thats it , the kid fought for my love thats the story I want to tell how a little boy taught me to love and care for somebody else. A love I sealed off by naming him. Then my adoption it sounds contradictory to my previ ous statement but this event is not really so much about me being accepted into my family by some old dood with hammer but about the happiness one feels when a fight has been won the happiness and Joy a young child an see on his parents face. astly the adoption of my puppy Just really wasn't all that life changing. Sure she is cute and amazing and I could probably type it up to make it a cute boy-meets-dog story that makes the reader feel all warm and fuzzy. Once again, that's not an event that changed me. Instead I want to tell you about a small talk that changed my view on life. let me tell you about the first event. My brothers name is Joshua kevin Shupe- Shellooe but when he first came to us he was simply Mario a name I personally hated. When my brother and I met I didn't like him.With his constant whining and rying but what really got me was he would never talk. He would do everything but talk to get what he needed. He would follow me around non stop and copy all my actions. I hated him. I was mean to him and tried everything I could do to to get him to leave me alone and leave the family. There was one point when my parents considered not going through with the adoption. Josh was a never-ending ball of love to me and I didn't get it. I was doing everything I could think of to make him hate me. It seemed as if the more I tried to hate him, the more I fell into his neverending spell f love.After awhile I couldn't help but to start to love him. The little kid with the toothless smile and the eyes that held the vast wisdom that only can be found in the eyes of a young child. He was teaching me love and compassion and he had no clue. He name was still Mario but he was Mario my friend. As time went by he started to open up. He started to talk a little and always asked for me, his big brother, to tuck him in. Always full of questions that a six year old, know it all either answered correctly or made up something that sounded right. He always cared for everybody .He was the kid who was always willing to give you the last Juice box or let you watch your favorite tv show Just to make you happy. He was still Mario though my friend not my brother but that soon changed. It changed one early morning while my Dad and Pop were throwing around names that we could call Mario. Out of nowhere I said his name is â€Å"Joshua†. my parents were a little shocked but they liked the name and brother. Now that I think about it, what better name for a boy that tore down the barriers and showed me blind love and taught me care and faith in the unknown. The name Joshua comes from the Bible.He was the leader of the Israelites after Moses. One of the most important and most well known stories of Joshua is when he marched around the gates of Jericho and his army and him blew rams horns and marched seven days around the city of because God had told Joshua that on the seventh day the walls would fall. This reminds me of my brother Josh. He followed blind love and faith and he tore down the walls I had around my heart, much like Joshua in the Bible and his blind faith. For me this was an event that changed me. I learned love and I learned care from a boy of only two years old.The second event was my adoption though it went before Joshuas im choosing to explain the events by the most impactfull for me. lt started as all adoption days start . I got up and my Pop and Dad gave me a bath. They obsessed over my hair and my brand new suit. As a kid I loved getting all dressed up it gave me a reason to forget who I was and pretend I was someone else. I remember walking out the door and feeling like I was the boss and the baddest thing to hit this earth since sliced bread. I got in the car and my parents prept me on what I was going to be asked and how I should answer.Behind all the prep talk I could see the pure excitement and Joy in their eyes and tears. Even though I was young I knew this was a big deal I knew that this was the day that my fath ers and I were going to be together forever if all went well. I knew we were a family whether or not it went well but somehow even at a young age I felt that the adoption was more for them than me it was a sign to them that all there hard work had paid off and they could feel the pure Joy and excitement ofa child . I couldn't help but feel excited too. When we got to the courthouse in san jose my godmothers were there my uncle dale and cousins and my godfathers.Everybody was asking me if I was excited and there was a never ending stream of kisses and hugs. they told me to weight in a side room well they finished up the rest of the paper work after what seemed like a lifetime of waiting they finally brought me in and lead me two the courtroom. When I walked in we sat down in chairs in front of the Judge. At the time I was a little more excited with the fact that there was a microphone on the desk. I kept singing songs and yelling into it. Finally the Judge told me to stop and asked m e a serious of long questions that I can't begin to remember. Which I answered yes too to them all.There was one question I do remember it was the last question he asked me † Do you Alexander Ignacio Shupe-Shellooe take these two loving parents to be your parents for the rest of your life i said mies†. At that point my Pop started to cry I didn't get why he was crying I felt bad I thought I said something wrong. â€Å"Pop why are you Crying† â€Å"Because I'm so happy son† I didn't get it then but I do now. After the long search for their child the struggle to get me in there home the fght against hatred and stereotypes to finally have the government let me n my parents home it was finally over they had won.As I grew older I became more aware of the underlying significance of this event. I promised myself that one day i would find a dream and pursue it to the end so I can feel the Joy my Dads felt and the overwhelming happiness . The last event is a small c onversation i had that made me think and wonder about the other kids think , you're a warrior Alex I know you can make it so dont bring yourself down you have made it through two years of treatment you have tought me alot. lll miss you I have seen you grow and have witnessed your pain and your hurt.You have gone from a kid who punched walls till his knuckles bled and would fght any kid who looked at him wrong cause he was scared of everything . Tto who you are now a kid who looks after the younger boys whos a leader in this school and has helped the school through some of the roughest times. You still have anger and pain don't forget it. Use it to fuel you to pursue your dreams smile big love your life but don't forget the hurt † That was the last time I ever talked to Sean, Sean was my mentor the wise man who lead me and guided me through my work through treatment. The words he Just spoke to me would change me. as leaving treatment for the first time in two years getting read y to embark on a new Journey. I couldn't help but wonder if it was all worth it if the experience was really a life changing event. I thought about Sean and the kids I have met the tears I've shed and the Joy I had felt. I started to realized that no matter how bad it was I would never take it back . The days I woke up early and had to work in the yard tending plants and gardening and picking fruits to the kids I had swear to me they kill me to the adults that pounded in manners and respect into my mind. Those were things that made e into who I am now.I knew that when I left treatment I was leaving as a new kid. I no longer hated the world for the hurt I felt when I was younger or for putting me in treatment. I love the world I have learned to cherish everything I have and be thankful for all the gifts I have been givin . 1 realized that behind all the pain and hurt and anger is sadness. I was going to use the sadness to fuel my determination to do better in my life. Even though I w as leaving and didnt know what was going to happen I had new insight on how to handle hard things in my life. How do all these experiences connect with eachother.They all contain a overall blanket lesson percervierence. Weather or not it was my brother pushing for my love and exceptince or my parents struggle and fght to have me legally called there son or even a simple chat to one friend to another about never giving up these all talked about the struggle to move forward. These are the stories that made me into who I am now. Discussion: During this course, I have learnt several things, which will surely help me to overcome all the barriers in the workplace. I have found that communication is the most important process, which is mainly performed within the workplace. There are several types of complexities, which I generally face in the workplace while completing my assigned task. In order to know a person more, I need to perform effective communication process in the workplace. This will help me to know that particular person and its behavior in much more detail. In order to work in the organization, I need to mainly focus on the communication. Effective communication practices make the flow of the operation and the other practice much easier. I have found due to lack of communication level, the individual face several kinds of problem in the workplace. During the course, I have found that can be performed both verbally and non-verbally. In order to improve the work quality, I have found that the involvement of the individual is very much important. By maintaining effective communication level, the business organization can easily fulfill the organization goals and additionally, it will also help to develop strong bonding with the individual employees in the workplace (Guffey Loewy, 2015). Communication is the most important process through which informations are transferred from one person to another in a workplace. I have learnt a lot of things through the course of communication (Badea, 2014). The course has changed my thought process about communication. I can communicate with the people easily and properly through communication. Different activities and process learnt by me in this course has helped me in conveying my thoughts to others. Both verbal and nonverbal communication has helped me in conveying my messages. I have solved the problem of cultural difference among different group of people through proper communication. As stated by Fragale et al., (2012), training plays an important part in solving this problem. I have increased my productivity in the workplace as I can properly communicate with different people. In a business organization, several kinds of problems can be raised in between the management and the employees or it can also rise between the employees (Myers et al. 2012). I have also found that effective communication motivates the individuals to deliver their best performances in the workplace. On the other hand, I have also found that effective communication also omit all the unnecessary doubt from the individuals mind and helps to make the whole working practice much more easy and comfortable. For completing any kind of work in the organization, the individual needs to main proper co-ordination and co-operation within all the departments and its members in the business organization. In the recent century workplace are growing rapidly and even spread beyond the borders. Global transaction is increasing rapidly. Effective communication has helped me to communicate with people beyond the boundaries. According to Iacob and Ristea, (2015), top management and mangers of my organization often asks me to communicate with the foreign customers. This has improved my status within the organization. I am also able to influence other persons through my communication and this has made me popular in the organization. Several times, in the working place I have found that sometimes the individuals becomes hesitant to disclose their feelings through effective communication. Therefore, it becomes much difficult to complete the task in a better way in the organization. During the course, I have also found that by maintaining effective communication level, it becomes much easier to maintain the flow of work from the top level to the bottom level. I have found that in a workplace communication barriers can occur due to several reason, namely for physical barriers, system design, attitudinal barrier, physiological barrier and cultural differences. I have found that due to lack of implementation of technology, physical barriers may arise within the individuals while communicating in the workplace. On the other hand, I have also found that due to ineffective system design sometimes, it becomes difficult for the employees to communicate with each other within the workplace (Popescu Stoica, 2015). Additionally, I have also found that due to attitudinal barrier, sometimes the individuals are unable to express their actual thoughts and expression. I have also found that cultural barrier can create huge barrier in the whole communication system in the work place. Fleisher and Bensoussan (2015) put forward that proper training and development also helps to enhance the communication level between each other in the workplace. During the course, I have gone through several training and development session, which has ultimately helped to enhance my skills and the communication level. By maintaining good communication level, I can easily put forward my personal views and thought to others in the workplace. From the course, I have also found that communication helps to motivate and encourage other to deliver the best performance in the workplace. I have also found that this course enhanced my personal skills and abilities to communicate with others in the workplace. It has also enhanced my personal interest and the job satisfaction level in the workplace. From this course, I have also understood that effective communication helps to develop the career in the right direction. I have also able to build a proper team in the organization with the help of my communication skills. I have been able to make the employees believe that strong communication skill will create a unity. Productivity of the organization is also rises because of a strong communication (Kolcun et al., 2014). As a result I am also praised by the top managers in the workplace. Top management has increased my responsibility and along with these my salary also increased. All this has helped me to develop as a person. I have also improved the morale of the employees in the organization through effective communication. I am also been able to motivate others in the organization through proper communication. According to Budd and Velasquez, (2014), relationships are improved through communication and the employees will feel happy. I have also improved the time management in workplace through effective communication. I have also learnt that I should listen to my colleagues properly before coming to any conclusion. Proper listening is also an effective part of communication strategy (Budd Velasquez, 2014). Before the training session I use to make decisions on the basis of assumptions. Nowadays, I do not take decisions on the basis of assumption (Miller, 2014). I take the views of different persons and then make any decisions. This has also made me good problem solvers. Informal communication helps to make the workplace situation comfortable. On the other hand, I have also found that the success and the failure of the individual are solely dependent on how effective I can communicate with other (Popescu Stoica, 2015). Through proper communication I can easily improve my relationship with the top management and other colleagues. Munshi and Kurian, (2015) commented that body language is also another important part of communication. Waiving hands, raising hands is also another part of non verbal communication (Badea, 2014). I have learnt these traits and this have made me an effective person in communicating. In the workplace while organizing any cultural activities I use to get the sole responsibility. According to Munshi and Kurian, (2015), the main reason is that I have a proper communication style. I do not ask ineffective questions and this have make me popular within the organization. The top managers are also impressed with my communication activities. Emotions also play an important role in accomplishing things (Popescu Stoica, 2015). In the workplace I usually do not mix emotions with my job role. This has helped me in achieving my targets and be a successful employer. Sometimes inappropriate communication may create conflict among the employees. I communicate with other employees in the organization in a formal manner and do not make any controversial comments (Sayeekumar, 2013). This has helped me in reducing conflict with other members in the workplace. Perception barriers are also reduced in the organization through a proper non verbal communication. I do not make any gestures within the organization which will create confusion (Guffey Loewy, 2012). Language problem can also be solved with the help of non verbal communication (Sayeekumar, 2013). Whenever I communicate with person from different community I usually take help of non verbal communication. Non verbal communication sometimes removes unnecessary conflicts among the individuals. While organizing any discussion within the workplace I always encourage others to take part in the discussion (Budd Velasquez, 2014). This has helped me to maintain a good relationship with other person in the organization. Even shyness of other employees are also reduced through effective communication. I also avoid distraction from other employees while taking any communication strategy. I do not disrupt other while others are sharing information in the workplace. In solving any problem I ask relevant questions regarding the topic. This has helped me solving problems and coming to any conclusion quickly (Guffey Loewy, 2012). I have also learnt etiquettes and skills which are used in communication strategy from the course. Skills like how to shake hands with people, how to welcome people has also helped me in my profession. With this effective non verbal communication I can greet employees effectively in the organization. Even the foreign customers in the workplace are also impressed with my body language (Thill Bove, 2013). I have also learnt how to wish people over the mobile phone in a conversation. This has made me a popular face in the workplace. In the future business communication will become an effective strategy to communicate with different clients in the workplace. Integrated audio and web conferring will become a medium to communicate with the clients. This will also reduce the cost of communication in the organization (Locker Kaczmarek, 2013). I have also learnt these strategies and this will help me to communicate with people easily. Conclusion: This it can be concluded that effective communication plays the most pivotal role in the individuals life. In the workplace several kinds of challenges and barrier may arise due to ineffective communication level practiced in-between the management and the employees. I have found that by maintaining different communication styles the business organizations mainly perform their different activities in the workplace. During the course I have learnt several things which will surely help me to develop my career in the right direct. Additionally, this course has enhanced my communication level and the interactions power. On the other hand it has a also helped to enhance my confidence level in the workplace. Jhonan Mercado Women Studies 187 Lisa D. Robinson Question #3 March 28, 1997 Slavery in America The enslavement of the Black man was not the first time slavery existed in history. According to history, another group of people that were enslaved were the Israelites in Egypt. However, no slavery, even that of the Israelites, in history was worse than the slavery of the Black man. The slavery of the Black man in America was the cruelest ever known to man. Europeans transported slaves from Africa as early as 1505. Spaniards brought the slaves to the island of Hispaniola. Some historians say that there were probably Africans on Columbus ships when he first sailed the Atlantic Ocean. These Africans were stripped of their home, culture, and language. The Black man and women was treated as an animal. He was not considered part of the human family. Blacks were taught that their slavery is the way things were meant to be. The white man used religion and other institutions in order to justify slavery in the south. According to historian slavery existed in the deep south because of the eco nomical situation. However, this does not explain why Africans were enslaved in America. The desperation for people to work the fertile land of the south called for the need of slaves. In Virginia, North Carolina, and Kentucky the plantations grew tobacco. In South Carolina, rice was grown. Cotton plantation increased in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. These plantation need people to work them. These plantation could not hire indentured servants because it would be to expensive. Indians could not be enslaved because it was easier for them to revolt against their slave masters (the Americas was their home). Africans were the perfect victims because thousands of miles away from home. Therefore, it was hard for these people to escape slavery. In addition, most of these African came from different tribes and communication was very hard amongst themselves. This was another flaw of the African slaves. Why would the United States support such an inhuman institution. During the 1790, more than one thousand tons of cotton was produced every year in the South. Eventually, more than a million tons was produced every year. Slavery was the only answer. Between late 1700s and early 1800s, slaves increased from 500,000 to 4 million. Out of all of these slaves, the ones that suffered the most was the Black women. Women were in inferior to men and Blacks were inferior to whites. So, to be a Black women during slavery was a double inferiority, a double negative, it was the lowest point in society. Black women suffered a great deal during slavery. White women were discriminated but they were treated according to their gender in society. In society the women's role was to stay home and cook, while the man's role was to go out and work. The black women did not have the privileged of just staying home. She had to work the fields or in the slave masters house, as well. The Black women had no gender she was treated just like a Black man and sometimes even worst. The severity of the punishments were equal amongst Black men and women. When the Black women was pregnant, she was not excused from her daily chores. Black women suffered more than because Black men did not have to worry about getting raped. Slave masters used Black women for their sexual pleasure. After transportation of slaves from Africa t o America became illegal, the need for female slaves became more important for slave masters. Slaves master began to produce slave on their plantation because the accessibility of slaves from Africa was diminishing. Thus, black women become breeders. Therefore, white slave master raped the Black women not only for sexual pleasure, but to create new slaves that were going to replace the old ones. Sometimes the slave masters forced other Black men to have sex with a Black women, while her husband was also forced to watch. Blacks carried a big burden because of slavery, but Black women had to carry a double burden because of her biological makeup. After being raped, the Black women was assured that she was going to keep her child. Most of the times
