The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby, published in 1925, is hailed as a masterpiece of American fiction. The author, F. Scott Fitzgerald offers up a commentary on the American society of which he was a part. He successfully encapsulates the mood of a generation during a politically and socially crucial and chaotic period of American history. In fact, The Great Gatsby stands as a brilliant piece of English literature, offering a vivid peek into American life in the 1920s. In todays society, it is infrequent that you turn on the television and are not bombarded with images of sex, violence, or other content that the Puritans would have viewed as being the work of Old Deluder (the name given to Satan in the time period). Yes, it is true; the society in which we dwell in today is no more remarkable than that of barbaric times. The only difference might be that we no longer kill out of primal instinct; we do it out of fear, or malice, or patriotism, or even pleasure. There are several ways, by which the two and individual can communicate in the workplace. Every business organizations maintain a particular form of communication, to maintain the workflow in the organization. With the advancement of technology, the communication process also has been changed with time. On the other hand, it also helps to develop the relationship in between the management and the employees. Additionally, effective communication also helps overcome the problems, which the individuals are facing in the workplace. Discussion: During this course, I have learnt several things, which will surely help me to overcome all the barriers in the workplace. I have found that communication is the most important process, which is mainly performed within the workplace. There are several types of complexities, which I generally face in the workplace while completing my assigned task. In order to know a person more, I need to perform effective communication process in the workplace. This will help me to know that particular person and its behavior in much more detail. In order to work in the organization, I need to mainly focus on the communication. Effective communication practices make the flow of the operation and the other practice much easier. I have found due to lack of communication level, the individual face several kinds of problem in the workplace. During the course, I have found that can be performed both verbally and non-verbally. In order to improve the work quality, I have found that the involvement of the individual is very much important. By maintaining effective communication level, the business organization can easily fulfill the organization goals and additionally, it will also help to develop strong bonding with the individual employees in the workplace (Guffey Loewy, 2015). Communication is the most important process through which informations are transferred from one person to another in a workplace. I have learnt a lot of things through the course of communication (Badea, 2014). The course has changed my thought process about communication. I can communicate with the people easily and properly through communication. Different activities and process learnt by me in this course has helped me in conveying my thoughts to others. Both verbal and nonverbal communication has helped me in conveying my messages. I have solved the problem of cultural difference among different group of people through proper communication. As stated by Fragale et al., (2012), training plays an important part in solving this problem. I have increased my productivity in the workplace as I can properly communicate with different people. In a business organization, several kinds of problems can be raised in between the management and the employees or it can also rise between the employees (Myers et al. 2012). I have also found that effective communication motivates the individuals to deliver their best performances in the workplace. On the other hand, I have also found that effective communication also omit all the unnecessary doubt from the individuals mind and helps to make the whole working practice much more easy and comfortable. For completing any kind of work in the organization, the individual needs to main proper co-ordination and co-operation within all the departments and its members in the business organization. In the recent century workplace are growing rapidly and even spread beyond the borders. Global transaction is increasing rapidly. Effective communication has helped me to communicate with people beyond the boundaries. According to Iacob and Ristea, (2015), top management and mangers of my organization often asks me to communicate with the foreign customers. This has improved my status within the organization. I am also able to influence other persons through my communication and this has made me popular in the organization. Several times, in the working place I have found that sometimes the individuals becomes hesitant to disclose their feelings through effective communication. Therefore, it becomes much difficult to complete the task in a better way in the organization. During the course, I have also found that by maintaining effective communication level, it becomes much easier to maintain the flow of work from the top level to the bottom level. I have found that in a workplace communication barriers can occur due to several reason, namely for physical barriers, system design, attitudinal barrier, physiological barrier and cultural differences. I have found that due to lack of implementation of technology, physical barriers may arise within the individuals while communicating in the workplace. On the other hand, I have also found that due to ineffective system design sometimes, it becomes difficult for the employees to communicate with each other within the workplace (Popescu Stoica, 2015). Additionally, I have also found that due to attitudinal barrier, sometimes the individuals are unable to express their actual thoughts and expression. I have also found that cultural barrier can create huge barrier in the whole communication system in the work place. Fleisher and Bensoussan (2015) put forward that proper training and development also helps to enhance the communication level between each other in the workplace. During the course, I have gone through several training and development session, which has ultimately helped to enhance my skills and the communication level. Guffey Loewy (2012) argued that ineffective communication gives rise to several problems in the workplace. I have found that the internal communication process plays an important role within the workplace. By maintaining good communication level, I can easily put forward my personal views and thought to others in the workplace. I have found communication can be practiced in various form namely through downward, vertical, horizontal, and diagonal (Locker Kaczmarek, 2013). Effective communication also helps to build effective teams. It becomes much easier to work in a team and it also becomes easier to maintain the flow of communication within the team members. From the course, I have also found that communication helps to motivate and encourage other to deliver the best performance in the workplace. I have also found that this course enhanced my personal skills and abilities to communicate with others in the workplace. It has also enhanced my personal interest and the job satisfaction level in the workplace. From this course, I have also understood that effective communication helps to develop the career in the right direction. I have also able to build a proper team in the organization with the help of my communication skills. I have been able to make the employees believe that strong communication skill will create a unity. Productivity of the organization is also rises because of a strong communication (Kolcun et al., 2014). As a result I am also praised by the top managers in the workplace. Top management has increased my responsibility and along with these my salary also increased. All this has helped me to develop as a person. I have also improved the morale of the employees in the organization through effective communication. I am also been able to motivate others in the organization through proper communication. According to Budd and Velasquez, (2014), relationships are improved through communication and the employees will feel happy. I have also improved the time management in workplace through effective communication. I have also learnt that I should listen to my colleagues properly before coming to any conclusion. Proper listening is also an effective part of communication strategy (Budd Velasquez, 2014). Before the training session I use to make decisions on the basis of assumptions. Nowadays, I do not take decisions on the basis of assumption (Miller, 2014). I take the views of different persons and then make any decisions. This has also made me good problem solvers. Informal communication helps to make the workplace situation comfortable. On the other hand, I have also found that the success and the failure of the individual are solely dependent on how effective I can communicate with other (Popescu Stoica, 2015). Through proper communication I can easily improve my relationship with the top management and other colleagues. Munshi and Kurian, (2015) commented that body language is also another important part of communication. Waiving hands, raising hands is also another part of non verbal communication (Badea, 2014). I have learnt these traits and this have made me an effective person in communicating. In the workplace while organizing any cultural activities I use to get the sole responsibility. According to Munshi and Kurian, (2015), the main reason is that I have a proper communication style. I do not ask ineffective questions and this have make me popular within the organization. The top managers are also impressed with my communication activities. Emotions also play an important role in accomplishing things (Popescu Stoica, 2015). In the workplace I usually do not mix emotions with my job role. This has helped me in achieving my targets and be a successful employer. Sometimes inappropriate communication may create conflict among the employees. I communicate with other employees in the organization in a formal manner and do not make any controversial comments (Sayeekumar, 2013). This has helped me in reducing conflict with other members in the workplace. Perception barriers are also reduced in the organization through a proper non verbal communication. I do not make any gestures within the organization which will create confusion (Guffey Loewy, 2012). Language problem can also be solved with the help of non verbal communication (Sayeekumar, 2013). Whenever I communicate with person from different community I usually take help of non verbal communication. Non verbal communication sometimes removes unnecessary conflicts among the individuals. While organizing any discussion within the workplace I always encourage others to take part in the discussion (Budd Velasquez, 2014). This has helped me to maintain a good relationship with other person in the organization. Even shyness of other employees are also reduced through effective communication. I also avoid distraction from other employees while taking any communication strategy. I do not disrupt other while others are sharing information in the workplace. In solving any problem I ask relevant questions regarding the topic. This has helped me solving problems and coming to any conclusion quickly (Guffey Loewy, 2012). I have also learnt etiquettes and skills which are used in communication strategy from the course. Skills like how to shake hands with people, how to welcome people has also helped me in my profession. With this effective non verbal communication I can greet employees effectively in the organization. Even the foreign customers in the workplace are also impressed with my body language (Thill Bove, 2013). I have also learnt how to wish people over the mobile phone in a conversation. This has made me a popular face in the workplace. In the future business communication will become an effective strategy to communicate with different clients in the workplace. Integrated audio and web conferring will become a medium to communicate with the clients. This will also reduce the cost of communication in the organization (Locker Kaczmarek, 2013). I have also learnt these strategies and this will help me to communicate with people easily. Conclusion: This it can be concluded that effective communication plays the most pivotal role in the individuals life. In the workplace several kinds of challenges and barrier may arise due to ineffective communication level practiced in-between the management and the employees. Jhonan Mercado Women Studies 187 Lisa D. Robinson Question #3 March 28, 1997 Slavery in America The enslavement of the Black man was not the first time slavery existed in history. According to history, another group of people that were enslaved were the Israelites in Egypt. However, no slavery, even that of the Israelites, in history was worse than the slavery of the Black man. The slavery of the Black man in America was the cruelest ever known to man. Europeans transported slaves from Africa as early as 1505. Spaniards brought the slaves to the island of Hispaniola. Some historians say that there were probably Africans on Columbus ships when he first sailed the Atlantic Ocean. These Africans were stripped of their home, culture, and language. The Black man and women was treated as an animal. He was not considered part of the human family. Blacks were taught that their slavery is the way things were meant to be. The white man used religion and other institutions in order to justify slavery in the south. According to historian slavery existed in the deep south because of the eco nomical situation. However, this does not explain why Africans were enslaved in America. The desperation for people to work the fertile land of the south called for the need of slaves. In Virginia, North Carolina, and Kentucky the plantations grew tobacco. In South Carolina, rice was grown. Cotton plantation increased in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. These plantation need people to work them. These plantation could not hire indentured servants because it would be to expensive. Indians could not be enslaved because it was easier for them to revolt against their slave masters (the Americas was their home). Africans were the perfect victims because thousands of miles away from home. Therefore, it was hard for these people to escape slavery. In addition, most of these African came from different tribes and communication was very hard amongst themselves. This was another flaw of the African slaves. Why would the United States support such an inhuman institution. During the 1790, more than one thousand tons of cotton was produced every year in the South. Eventually, more than a million tons was produced every year. Slavery was the only answer. Between late 1700s and early 1800s, slaves increased from 500,000 to 4 million. Out of all of these slaves, the ones that suffered the most was the Black women. Women were in inferior to men and Blacks were inferior to whites. So, to be a Black women during slavery was a double inferiority, a double negative, it was the lowest point in society. Black women suffered a great deal during slavery. White women were discriminated but they were treated according to their gender in society. In society the women's role was to stay home and cook, while the man's role was to go out and work. The black women did not have the privileged of just staying home. She had to work the fields or in the slave masters house, as well. The Black women had no gender she was treated just like a Black man and sometimes even worst. The severity of the punishments were equal amongst Black men and women. When the Black women was pregnant, she was not excused from her daily chores. Black women suffered more than because Black men did not have to worry about getting raped. Slave masters used Black women for their sexual pleasure. After transportation of slaves from Africa t o America became illegal, the need for female slaves became more important for slave masters. Slaves master began to produce slave on their plantation because the accessibility of slaves from Africa was diminishing. Thus, black women become breeders. Therefore, white slave master raped the Black women not only for sexual pleasure, but to create new slaves that were going to replace the old ones. Sometimes the slave masters forced other Black men to have sex with a Black women, while her husband was also forced to watch. Blacks carried a big burden because of slavery, but Black women had to carry a double burden because of her biological makeup. Women's Roles in America in the Early 1800s In the early 19th century in America, women had different experiences of life depending on what groups they were part of. A dominant ideology at the beginning of the 1800s was called Republican Motherhood: middle and upper-class white women were expected to be the educators of the young to be good citizens of the new country.   The other dominant ideology about gender roles that was common in the first half of the 1800s in white upper and middle-class circles was that of separate spheres: women were to rule the domestic sphere (home and raising children) and men the public sphere (business, trade, government). This ideology would have, if followed consistently, meant that women were not part of the public sphere at all. But there were a variety of ways that women did take part in public life. Biblical injunctions against women speaking in public discouraged many from that role, but some women became public speakers anyway. The end of the first half of the 19th century was marked by several woman’s rights conventions: in  1848, then again in 1850.  The Declaration of Sentiments of 1848 describes clearly the limits placed on women in public life before that time. African American Women and Native American Women Women of African descent who were enslaved had no real public life. They were considered property and could be sold and raped with impunity by those who, under the law, owned them.  Few participated in public life, though some came to public view. Many were not even recorded with a name in the records of the enslavers. A few participated in the public sphere as preachers, teachers, and writers. Sally Hemings, enslaved by Thomas Jefferson and was almost certainly his wife’s half-sister, was the mother of children most scholars accept Jefferson fathered. Hemings came to public view as part of an attempt by a political enemy of Jefferson to create a public scandal. Jefferson and Hemings themselves never publicly acknowledged the relationship, and Hemings didn’t participate in public life other than having her identity used. Sojourner Truth, who was emancipated from slavery by New York’s law in 1827, was an itinerant preacher. At the very end of the first half of the 19th century, she became known as a circuit speaker and even spoke on women’s suffrage just after the first half of the century.  Harriet Tubman’s first trip freeing herself and others was in 1849. Some African American women became teachers. Schools were often segregated by sex as well as race. As one example, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper was a teacher in the 1840s, and also published a book of poetry in 1845.  In other free black communities in northern states, other African American women were able to be teachers, writers, and active in their churches.  Maria Stewart, part of Boston’s free black community, became active as a lecturer in the 1830s, though she only gave two public lectures before she retired from that public role.  Sarah Mapps Douglass in Philadelphia not only taught but founded a Female Literary Society for other African American women, aimed at self-improvement. Native American women in some nations had major roles in making decisions of the community.  But because this didn’t fit the dominant white ideology that was guiding those who were writing history, most of these women are unnamed in history.  Sacagawea is known because she was a guide for a major exploratory project, her language skills needed for the success of the expedition. White Women Writers One area of public life assumed by a few women was the role of a writer. Sometimes (as with the Bronte sisters in England), they would write under male pseudonyms and sometimes under ambiguous pseudonyms.  Margaret Fuller not only wrote under her own name, but she also published a book on Women of the Nineteenth Century before her untimely death in 1850.  She had also hosted famous conversations among women to further their â€Å"self-culture.† Elizabeth Palmer Peabody ran a bookstore that was a favorite gathering place for the Transcendentalist circle.   Women’s Education In order to fulfill the aims of Republican Motherhood, some women gained access to more education so- at first- they could be better teachers of their sons, as future public citizens, and of their daughters, as future educators of another generation. So one public role for women was as teachers, including founding schools.  Catherine Beecher and Mary Lyon are among notable women educators. The first African American woman to graduate from college did so in 1850. Elizabeth Blackwell’s graduation in 1849 as the first woman physician in the United States shows the change that would end the first half and begin the second half of the century, with new opportunities gradually opening for women. Women Social Reformers Lucretia Mott, Sarah Grimkà ©, Angelina Grimkà ©, Lydia Maria Child, Mary Livermore, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and others became publicly active in the abolitionist movement. Their experience there, of being put in second place and sometimes denied the right to speak publicly or limited to speaking to women, helped lead some of these same women to work later for women’s emancipation from the â€Å"separate spheres† ideological role. Women at Work Betsy Ross may not have made the first United States flag, as legend credits her, but she was a professional flagmaker at the end of the 18th century. She continued her work through several marriages as a seamstress and businesswoman. Many other women worked in various jobs, sometimes alongside husbands or fathers, and sometimes, especially if widowed, on their own. The sewing machine was introduced into factories in the 1830s. Before that, most sewing was done by hand at home or in small businesses. With the introduction of machines for weaving and sewing fabric, young women, especially in farm families,  began to spend a few years before marriage working in the new industrial mills, including the Lowell Mill in Massachusetts. The Lowell Mill also channeled some young women into literary pursuits and saw what was probably the first women’s labor union in the United States. Setting New Standards Sarah Josepha Hale  had to go to work to support herself and her children when she was widowed. In 1828, she became the editor of a magazine that later evolved into Godeys Ladys Magazine, and was billed as  the first magazine edited by a woman for women ... either in the Old World or the New.  Ironically, perhaps, it was Godeys Ladys Magazine that promoted the ideal of women in the domestic sphere and helped establish a middle and upper-class standard for how women should carry out their home life. Conclusion Despite a general ideology that the public sphere should be exclusively male, some notable women did participate in public affairs.  While women were prohibited from some public jobs- such as being a lawyer- and were rarely accepted in many others, the women of the early 1800s had public roles. Some women worked (enslaved, as factory workers, at home and small businesses), some women wrote, and some were activists.

Silver Blaze Essay What are the roles of Holmes and Watson within Silver Blaze and what is there relationship with each other? In this assignment I am going to look at the relationship between to characters that are both very hard to judge this is due to their roles and use in the storys created by Conan Doyle. Holmes and Watson are two characters, created by Conan Doyle. They live a very interesting and adventurous life. They have a great interest in crimes, which have been committed and enjoy solving them and understanding the criminals intentions. Watson is a retired medical who worked for the army and has a lot of knowledge. After reading Silver Blaze I have noted that Holmes always seems to be the master mind in solving the crimes, and that Watson is telling the story as though he is dictating it in his diary. It seems to give the reader the impression that Holmes gives the orders to Watson, but not in a harsh way, he gives the reader the impression as though he is the leader. Also when they arrive at the town of Tavistock they are greeted with great care, there is a carriage waiting to escort them to their hotel. The relationship between Holmes and Watson in Silver Blaze is clear. The first thing we can learn straight away is that both Holmes and Watson are both livening together and both also are always travelling together, this shows us that there relationship is strong, and we also can note that they never argue therefore there friendship is very strong. Also we know that not only do both Holmes and Watson live together but also work together. This makes it hard but yet also very easy to evaluate their relationship. This is because I could evaluate the relationship between Holmes and Watson if I was to read all the Conan Doyle books, which he wrote. I could judge the relationship easier, but the problem which I do face is that Holmes and Watson spend so much time together, there relationship is very strong and is lot more than I can talk about it through Silver Blaze. This is because from what I have read I see there relationship as two working partners, when I say partners I mean business partners. Also to show that the relationship of Watson and Holmes is very strong, in line 505 it shows Watson defending Holmes whos intentions are to drop this case; I was about to make some reply in defence of my friend, when he entered the room again. Watson gives the picture as though he is Holmes sidekick. This is the image given by the writer to the reader, but if you continue reading the story and understand the characters you can learn that both men would not be as successful as they are, if they werent together. This is because the two men both have great knowledge and expertise in different sectors and fields and always needs the others opinion. A good example of this is when they discover the knife that was used in the incident in Silver Blaze; Holmes turns to Watson for his medical expertise. This shows us that both men require each others knowledge. For example, Line 122, Watson ask, One moment! asked Watson. Did the stable boy, when he ran out with the dog, leave the door unlocked behind him? This allows us to see that Holmes requires Watsons help. We can tell this because of Holmes response is; Excellent, Watson! murmured my companion. The importance of the point struck me so forcibly that I sent a special wire to Dartmoor yesterday to clear the matter. This response tells us that Holmes requires Watsons knowledge. It also in a way steals Watsons clever work, ideas and his theory about the crime. This also tells us that Watson is not just a friend who helps Holmes by being with him, but Watson is an important part to Holmes cases, because of his knowledge. The writer Doyle gives us the impression that Watson is telling the story that makes the reader think that Watson does not play a major part in the case. A good example of this is: Excellent, Watson! murmured my companion. Murmured my companion, those three words tell us that Watson is telling the story. Also it also states Holmes and Watsons relationship, which is that the two are very close companions. Also I have noticed at the end of the short story Watson evaluates the story and the case after Holmes has explained the mystery and the puzzle of the case. Also a lot of the crime solving and puzzles are explained by Homes, the reason why I think this is because Watson is seen to be Holmes pupil. The reason why I think this is because all the explanation is done by Holmes and all the introduction to the cases are done by Homes. As example of this is shown on the first page to the story, Holmes explains to Watson about him leaving, and then Watson offers to come along, and once this is said by Watson, Holmes is very glad and happy that Watson has offered to come along. So overall I feel that his relationship between Holmes and Watson is very strong and powerful, this is because they have friendship, partnership and a lot of trust in each other. There partnership is also very successful because they both see each other as very useful, and are always happy to listen to each others views without arguing or disagreeing.

The â€Å"Gift of the Magi† by O. Henry is a short story that has an interesting theme. The main themes in this short story are that people do not need money to express love, and the true meaning of Christmas. Things such as the characters, setting, and events contribute to the theme. The characters Della and Jim have very little money, and yet they express their love by each selling their greatest treasures. Della sells her hair and Jim sells his watch. If they were both wealthy people, the story would have most likely have changed for the worse. Since these people make very little money, their gifts come more from the heart and show how much they care about each other. Having the story set in a big city impacted the theme of the story. Life is more stressful in the city, especially for those who are less fortunate. The difference of the setting being in the city rather than a small town, is that the cities often have many people who cannot afford expensive presents. The city has people just like Della and Jim who can only afford to have presents from the heart. The events have a large role in the theme of people expressing their love without money. Della sells her hair to buy a watch chain for Jim. Jim sells his watch to buy an set of combs for Della. In the end they each end up not being able to use the gifts but realize how much affection they each have. O. Henry describes the scene where Della is preparing to go sell her hair very vividly. â€Å"So now Della's beautiful hair fell about her rippling and shining like a cascade of brown waters...Once she faltered for a minute and stood still while a tear or two splashed on the worn red carpet.

Safety Officer This role is very important as they produce the risk assessment for the sport taking sports and the facility around it, to ensure that there a minimize risk of any injuries to happening whilst taking part in the physical activity.It's important to have a risk assessment in place as if an injury does happen the tournament could be shut down and the people who ran it could get sued. The safety officer is also in charge of first aid arrangements for the day. This is very important as if this is not in place then the people can get sued for not having the right equipment. For example if someone feel over and cut their knee, and a first eider wasn't on side to deal with it and it got infected, the participant could beco me Organizer The organizer is responsible for sorting out the schedule for the day and what Jobs here needs to be.E. G. Umpires, runners (get score cards), first eider. If this isn't done the tournament wouldn't run smoothly as everything/everyone would be unrecognized and not sure what going on. Another role of the organizer is to record the results. Again this need to be done correctly as if it is not then a team might have scored more goals than they have put down and could cost them a place in the ranking. Sports leader The role of the sports leaders are to check all the equipment and make sure they are safe to use and the facility is in good condition and there are no risks where artisans could get hurt.This important as if the equipment isn't check and ends up being not safe it could cause serious harm to the participants taking part. If a piece of equipment is broke or damaged it shouldn't be used or taken out of the facility by the sports leader. Positive Looking back at the tournament I feel like it went well and the event overall was a success. One of the positive comments I received is that the girls enjoyed taking part and taking part in the competition.Through-out the day I went round to all the different teams to see if they needed alp with anything and to see if they were enjoying themselves. All of the girls and their coaches said yes. This made me feel like a successfully planned the event which proved a have good organization skills. The next positive comment I received was the is layout of the tournament was good, everything was very clear. E. G. The number of the court, where the toilet are SECT. This made me feel like I picked the best venue to hold the tournament. A positive out of the tournament was the umpires.They done a great Job in keeping up with play, timing the games, keeping the score and knowing the rules of the Ames throughout the day. Without the referees the event couldn't have gone ahead as no one would have refereed the games Another positive out of the tournament was the first aid available. They were very quick to react to any injuries that occurred throughout the day. This was important to eiders, we would have been stuck if there was an injury as no one would know how to deal with it. Improvements If I were to do this event again I would have more organizers to control the amount of children there was on the day of the tournament.As there were a lot of artisans and by having more organizer it would of made the day run more smoothly as I give each team a organizer to tell where they are going next and where anything is . An area I could improve on for the tournament was the refreshments. I only had one refreshment stall which was quite big, but there wasn't enough workers in there, therefore it took longer to serve people . This is important to improve so people get served and the there isn't a queue of people as this could cause someone to get a injury. For example someone pushing in the queue and end up pushing someone over and then them injuring themselves.The way I got this feedback from the tournament was a questionnaire which I gave to each team to fill out. Sometimes these types of books make me nervous because they can be di fficult to ‘read’ aloud to kids; however, Raschka’s watercolor illustrations are playful, fun, and make telling the story a piece of cake. In fact, this is a story that can be told collaboratively. Let the kids tell you what Daisy is doing in a picture and how Daisy feels in another. The flow of the story does get a little confusing when the format of the illustrations switch from page to page.For example, sometimes there is a picture for each page and sometimes the picture goes across both pages. I had to re-read a few pages the first time because I got a little confused on the order of the pictures, but this is a small issue, and you should not be deterred from checking this book out from your local library. This is a story worth reading and telling. I'm not sure if the concept would be ever-obvious to babi es and toddlers. But even if they don't â€Å"get it† get it, they should enjoy looking at the pictures.

it's high time for hemp essays The hemp plant is arguably the most useful crop in the world. There are over 25, 000 products made from hemp and it can be grown in a wide variety of climates. So how can such a useful plant be outlawed in America? Ignorance is how. People automatically connect hemp with its controversial cousin, marijuana. The truth is the differences between marijuana and hemp are very distinct. Hemp and marijuana are both variations of the cannabis plant. The quality that separates the two is the Tetra Hydro Cannabinol (THC) content. Hemp has less than 1% THC, while marijuana has 20-30%. This is because marijuana was specifically cultivated to have a high THC content. The amount of THC in hemp is so small that it would take dozens of pounds of it to even have a small affect on a person. It is humanly impossible to use hemp as a drug. One concern that many people have about the legalization of hemp is that they believe marijuana could easily be hidden in a field of hemp. This is not true for many reasons. First, the two plants are easily distinguished. Marijuana plants are short and bushy with many leaves and is harvested for its flowers and leaves. Hemp, however, is tall and straight, with leaves at the top of the plant and is harvested for its stalks before flowering even occurs. Nature here is seen as a source of peace and beauty. Again, Dickinson make effective use of several metaphors: the â€Å"leaden sieves† refer to gray, overcast winter skies, while â€Å"it† is the snow which dusts the landscape like flour; â€Å"Alabaster Wool† and â€Å"fleeces† represents snowflakes which are fluffy and white like wool and also cold like stone (alabaster); the earth is a face whose wrinkles and ups-and-downs are smoothed over by the snow. In a striking alliteration: â€Å"To Stump, and Stack - and –Stem† (Dickinson 13), the poet emphasizes ever y aspect of the snow-covered landscape. The snow is powdery flour, it is soft and fluffy wool, it is cold snow, it is a heavenly veil which covers the face of the earth, it is lace with ruffles the posts. The poem captures the beauty of winter through a wealth of imagery and metaphor. The poem, â€Å"I Like to See it Lap the Miles,† is in the form of a riddle. It uses metaphor to compare a train to a horse. The poet effectively conveys the image of the train as an iron horse which is voracious in its appetite for land and laps, licks and feeds itself. She also coveys the power of this ‘iron horse’ by metaphorically comparing it to the Boanerges, or sons of thunder. Dickinson uses weak rhyme in this poem, with words which have similar, but not identical, sounds: â€Å"up† and â€Å"step;† â€Å"peer† and â€Å"pare;† â€Å"while† and â€Å"hill;† â€Å"star† and â€Å"door.† There is an underlying strain of a ntagonism in the poem, as seen in the alliterative â€Å"horrid, hooting† (Dickinson 11). These are: Autocratic Democratic Lassez-faire. The autocratic style of leadership is the first style which gives approach in a controlled process means the leader is under the control and there is no thought of the students to run anything. This type of leadership style has its own ups and downs. The good of this is if you have a good strength of young and difficult students; then have to give a brief lesson to them or if the students wont reply to any type of leadership styles. The drawback of this style is if the student become stressed and scared with your style. It is useful if your level of confidence is less because if this is the remaining thing then they would not get down if they are already in this position. The other style of leadership is the democratic approach and this includes the involvement of the students in making of plans and decision and how their lesson could be run.   The positive point of democratic approach is that it always involves students and the leader will see what they like to be done and how to be done and whether the student has the ability to become a better leader. But on the other hand democratic approach is not suitable for it there are a number of students in one class or the time of lesson is really short. Therefore if the lesson is short then you have to extend the time of it. If you asked for the students contribution then you would not be able to start. The third style of leadership is the Lassez-faire approach. The Lassez-faire approach is not really leading. In this approach the students basically get to do what they want to do. They get little direction from the leader. This is an effective style to use when you are working with very good students (ability), when the students really want to do well for themselves and if you can trust the students. It should not be used if there are people in the class with limited experience, a big group or if there is difficult people in the group. 2.3 Adapting leadership styles: All these styles of leadership work in different situations and as a leader you have to change your style to suit the group that you are leading. For example if you are leading a group with limited experience you use the autocratic style, but if you have a really experienced group then the Lassez-faire style is the best. Now I will look at how you have to change your style of leadership when involved in different activities like racket, team and individual activities. When you are leading a racket sport you are really only working one on one. This allows you to use a democratic approach because the person you are leading is going to want to succeed. This allows you to let them look at what they want to do in the training session, and then you can put your own input into the session saying what you believe they should look at. If you are leading a team activity on the other hand you need to use the autocratic approach the reason that you will use this approach is because you need to get the whole team doing the same thing. This is important because you have to get the team working as a team at all times. Also if you are in charge of a whole group of people you need to be respected and maybe even feared. The best way to do this is to use the autocratic style of leading.   Finally if you are leading someone in an individual sport that you can use the Lassez-faire approach because in an individual sport they will know what they have done wrong. They may need a little input from you as the leader but ultimately they will know how to improve their own performance. I think that all of the leadership styles are effective in different situations, but I would choose the autocratic style over the others if I had a choice. The reason that I would choose this is because an autocratic leader gets things done quickly and efficiently. If you are using the autocratic style you will get more things done. The reason for this is that everyone will be doing the same thing, so you will be able to get through more drills or exercises without people with the group. 3.1 Professionalism, mutual trust, respect and support In order to meet the service users needs, you need to establish  Ã‚  open, accurate and responsive communication with the service users and the staff as well as reviewing service delivery with continuous focus on improved communication, effectively and efficiently, which I believe I have become quite good at. Whilst on my article ship I have learnt to act in a professional, prompt, caring and respectful manner, basing my relationships with service users on trust and mutual respect. I believe in aggressively striving to identify and meet the individual needs of all of the service users. By working together for the common good to accomplish tasks and deliver the services to the client, while striving to make every individual within the department part of my team. You also really need to respect and embrace human differences, be non-judgemental and respect the clients wishes and beliefs. Whilst on my placement I have also learnt to take the clients needs very seriously and paying attention to the details that build a strong relationship between student and client. You always have to be available for any questions, respect the departments concerns and seek sensible practical solutions to any problems that arise. As a student you need to learn to be responsible for making sure phone calls are returned promptly, updating service users on the progress of their query or problem, and anticipate upcoming needs and issues. You have to evaluate any risks, and then devise strategies to deal with them in a manner which is consistent with the service users exposure and risk tolerance. This approach ensures that the service users operate from a position of confidence rather than one of anxiety. The size and organisational structure easily accommodates the service users specific needs and all of the staff are knowledgeable in many fields and can collaborate with other agencies as part of the team. The departments approach is straightforward, as they  examine the objectives of each service user and allocate the necessary skills and resources to manage the matter effectively. Over the years, the department has demonstrated exceptional depth and skills in responding both individually and collectively to the changing and complex needs of the client. 3.2 -Leader focus and the achievement of objectives: Where there is no vision, the people perish  Proverbs 29:12   Ã‚  The strategic vision is the heart of an organization. The strategic vision gives focus, meaning, direction and power to everyone within in the organization. The strategic vision tells the members of the organization where we  are going The strategic vision gives life to the organization as the members walk in the vision. Without a strategic vision there is no  direction, no purpose, no motivation and the members within the organization perish and die because the welfare of the organization becomes unfocused. The strategic vision provides a glimpse of possibilities and it is the capacity to look beyond the moment into the vast potential of tomorrow. It evokes deeper meaning and deeper commitment than the goals. The vision and the mission statements are the critical elements of a successful business.  Ã‚  The vision and mission are linked together.  Ã‚  The vision addresses the where the mission is.  Ã‚  The vision is a goal and the mission is a strategy. The vision and the mission are the guiding principles and values of the organization.  Ã‚  The values that the members have give direction to the organization and define the spirit in which things in the organization should be accomplished.  Ã‚  A commitment flows from the values because of the organizations commitment to the members, the members in turn, become committed to the organization. An organization can reach the future by focusing on where the organization is headed. Every organization must have an end to which they are headed.  Ã‚  To be an effective organization there must be a strategic vision because Where there is no vision, the people perish. 3.3 -Developing support and understanding: Being one of the most predominant styles of leadership, democratic style of leadership is more likely to produce effective group performance. However, there is no one best style of leadership. Different types of leadership may also be needed at different stages of business. Effective leaders use a collection of distinct styles, in the right measure, at the right time. National culture may also influence choice of leadership style. There are many variables which underlie the effectiveness of leadership in work organisations. The most effective form of leadership behaviour is a product of the total leadership situation. Leadership development should be long term issue for any business organisation. Now that we know leadership is a crucial ingredient through which people in all the companys relationship are inspired. It takes good leaders to set a direction for the company. It takes good leaders to stimulate the whole organisation to understand what success looks like and how it will be achieved and measured. Leaders set the tone, by their deeds as much as by their words. They ensure that the organisation behaves in line with its purpose and values. However, if leaders lack the confidence to achieve and carry out these approaches it will ultimately result in poor leadership. Employee job performance and satisfaction are heavily influenced by the levels of direction and support  employees receive on a day-to-day basis. Poor leadership does not just hold employees back from reaching their full potential within an organisation; it sends them in the wrong direction and seriously impacts morale, employee retention, and financial performance in the process. 3.4 -Adapting strategic leadership styles to meet change: If an organization allows for a learning environment, the future competency potential of the employees and capacity for adapting to change will be unlimited. The Leadership-Participation Model states that open participation and a specific set of guidelines helps employees become a part of the corporate decision-making process. The Path-Goal theory states that leaders assist their workers to reach their own personal goals, as well as those of the company. By using the path-goal concept as a framework, managers can achieve many tasks, and their self-esteem needs will be satisfied. One of the leadership challenges faced by many managers is transactional leadership, which involves having to identify what are the employees needs and how to help them achieve the level of performance that results in satisfactory rewards (Robbins, 2003, 325-326). Transformational leadership is how managers encourage employees to earn self-actualization by providing individual attention and logical incentives. Efficient managers create dynamic leadership policies to gain employee commitment and loyalty. Managers who use interpersonal communication skills are more sensitive to employee needs, and provide ways for them to voice their opinions. Transformational leadership motivates employees to achieve results greater than originally planned for internal rewards like achievement and self-actualization (Bolton, 1996, 34-37). According to Fiedlers psychological reasoning, most employees focus on task completion and have a sense of accomplishment, so they follow task-oriented leadership. However, some employees also value supportive associations with managers, so they follow relationship-oriented leadership. Managers who use corporate task structure allow jobs to be structured according to problem-solving and feedback on success The most successful leaders care about employees personal advancement, growth and achievements, so they use an initiating structure where the manager defines the relationships, keeps the channels of communication open, focuses on goals, and explains how to do the jobs (DuBrin, 2000, 142-148). The five disciplines that Peter Senge (1990) says are the core disciplines in building the learning organization: personal mastery, mental models,  team learning, shared vision, and systems thinking. Personal mastery  is what Peter Senge describes as one of the core disciplines needed to build a learning organization. Personal mastery applies to individual learning, and Senge says that organizations cannot learn until their members begin to learn. Personal Mastery has two components. First, one must define what one is trying to achieve (a goal). Second, one must have a true measure of how close one is to the goal. (Senge, 1990) Mental models  are the second of Senges five disciplines a mental model is ones way of looking at the world. It is a framework for the cognitive processes of our mind. In other words, it determines how we think and act. Team Learning  Starts with dialogue, the capacity of members of a team to suspend assumptions and enter into a genuine thinking together. Shared Vision  As people talk, the vision grows clearer. As it gets clearer, enthusiasm for its benefits grow. System Thinking  System thinking is useful because, among other reasons, it can be diagrammed.  Ã‚  There are three simple system processes that can be easily defined and understood.  Reinforcing Feedback  Loop, Balancing Feedback  Loop,  Delays. Conclusion: Summing up all discussion I conclude that the pattern in which leadership and management react with each other is like leadership being centre of management and management being its circle. It is the obligation of every manager to be at the same time an inspiring leader. Being an efficient manager has actually proved to bring successful for the organization results whereas being an inspiring leader has not yet proved its importance. So an organization can progress if its manager is efficient but cannot progress, if its manager only relies to leadership characteristics. Leadership is an art that can be obtained and learned via experience. It is the difficulties via the years that one would face that will transform him into a leadership figure. In addition I consider leadership as nominal obligation of each and every manager. This is why in my  conclusion I differentiate the term managers from administrators. A manager should be a leader. Should be able to inspire and motivate withou t using his power. He should be visionary whereas at the same time very detailed oriented.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I would suggest that a word like Management ship or Leadership should describe the actions of the 21st  century manager, because our time calls for managers to be leaders.
